Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that works with the body’s self healing properties to try to help people achieve better health. A chiropractor adjusts a patient’s spine to allow their nervous system to work optimally.
How does Chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works by finding the areas of the spine that are “stuck” and not moving properly. A chiropractor finds these areas and makes adjustments to try and restore motion to that area. It is these areas that can cause disturbances in nerve flow, and cause pain or have other negative effects on our health.
How can Chiropractic help me?
Chiropractic can relieve lower back pain, mid-back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and leg pain. Some people also experience relief in the frequency and duration of migraine headaches, tension headaches, allergies, asthma, and fibromyalgia.
Can everybody benefit from Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is not for everybody. An exam and consultation are necessary to determine if chiropractic can be beneficial to you.
How often will I have to go to a chiropractor?
Because we are trying to restore motion to the fixated segments, and because the body can be a little resistant to this, most patients have to have more frequent adjustments in the beginning than they will later in their treatment.
However, once we get some of the motion restored and the muscle loosened up, you should start to feel better and can continue with less frequent treatments. Some patients respond more quickly than others.
What is Dr. Featherston’s approach to health?
Dr. Featherston believes in using the body’s self-healing properties to achieve optimal health. He encourages the use of exercise and nutrition instead of medications. He recommends limiting the use of medications, and cautions patients to consider surgery only as a last resort.
Most importantly, Dr. Featherston supports patients taking responsibility for their own care and treatment, and recognizes the final decision belongs to the patient.
